Bra problems

 Risque Lingerie Painful Underwire
Underwires that poke and pinch can really ruin your day! This is one of the most painful bra problems that affects women. With proper bra fitting and innovative soft cup styles, you can prevent painful underwires and improve your overall breast health. In the correct size, an underwire bra should be perfectly comfortable.

The underwire should surround the whole breast and lie flat against your side without pinching or poking. If you are spilling out of the sides, the cup is too small.top

  Wrinkled or Gapped Cups
In a perfectly fitted bra, there should be a smooth line between the top of the cup and your breast. If your cup doesn’t lay flat or there’s a space between the cup and your chest, you are wearing the wrong size.

Risque can help you find the best cup size for you. This section can help you solve this bra problem. Is there a gap at the top of your bra cups? Does the fabric at the top of the cups wrinkle or not lie flat?

There are two possible reasons for this bra problem. With a little help, you’ll soon have a bra that lies perfectly against your bust.

Often, a gap at the top of the cup is the result of wearing a cup size that is too large. Make sure you’ve adjusted your breast so that it is centered within the cup. If you have extra room in the cup, you should try going down one cup size. If the bra cup used to fit and you have not lost weight, your bra may be too old.

Another reason your bra could be gapping at the top is that your bra is not the right style or shape for your breasts. Every woman’s body is different, so even a bra in the correct size may not fit well if it is not suited to your breast shape. Many women have breasts that are fuller at the bottom than the top, or “teardrop” shaped.

Balconnette bras and demi bras are more suited to this body type than full-coverage bras. top

  “Quad Boob”
Ladies, you know this problem! When your breasts do not quite fit in your bra cup, the bump at the top of the cup can be very unflattering under your shirt. People say two heads are better than one…but believe me, four boobs aren’t better than two! “Quad boob” is our term for a bump that spills out from the top or side of your bra.

This embarrassing effect can even show under your shirts. If your breasts are bulging out from the top of your bra making you look like you have four breasts, then the cup on your bra is definitely too small. Many of the women who come into our store are wearing a cup size that is too small for their body.

Not everyone fits in the B, C and D cups that you find at chain stores, so don’t be surprised if your cup size is larger than you thought. There are great bras available up to an O (yes, O!) cup.top

  Falling Out of the Bra
Do you ever feel your breast creeping out from under your bra? Not only is this uncomfortable, falling out of your bra is a sure sign that you aren’t getting any support. Proper bra fitting and bra care can keep you more secure in your bra. In order for your bra to stay put and support your breasts, the band needs to be snug.

To test your fit, try putting a finger under the bra band, between the breasts. If you can fit two fingers or more under the band, it is definitely too loose. Many women wear a larger band size than they should because they think a looser band will be more comfortable or prevent “back bulge”. In reality, a tighter band will give you more support and prevent pain in your shoulders and back.

Trust me – you’ll look and feel much better! One very important bra fitting fact is that the size of the cup varies depending on the band size. For example, a 36D bra and a 34D bra do NOT have the same amount of space in the cup. If you want to try a smaller band size, you will also have to go up in the cup size. A good size for a woman whose 36D bras who is falling out of the bottom of her bra would be 34DD.

If your bra band is more than one size too big, or if you have trouble with your cup size as well, we recommend remeasuring yourself.top

  Bras That Won’t Lie Flat
Is your underwire floating away from your chest? A bra that won’t sit flat in between your breasts can be a constant annoyance. There are a few different reasons that could cause this problem, but we can help you figure out what’s wrong. Often, the underwire pokes forward instead of sitting against the chest. First of all, don’t worry too much about a wire that is a just a little bit away from the body.

For some body types, such as very large and full cup sizes, it is almost impossible to find an underwire bra that will be perfectly flat. There are a number of different reasons for this problem to occur, so look to the following ideas for ways to get your bra to sit against your center chest. One reason why this bra problem is so common is that it can be caused by bras that are both too big and too small.

The culprit here is your cup size. Cups that are too big have underwires that are too wide for your torso. The wire will poke up because it simply has no where else to go. If your cup size is too small, then it is impossible for the underwire to lie flat against your chest. Instead, the wire sits on top of your breast tissue. In order to see whether your cup size is too small or too big, look at your other “symptoms”.

Do you have a wrinkle in the cups or extra space in the cup? Your cup size is probably too large. Do you have a extra bump of breast tissue at the top or sides of the cups? Your cup size is probably too small. When the Size is Right and the Style is Wrong. If changing your cup size does not help the wires lie flat, it may be the style of bra that is not working for you. Not every woman’s breasts are the same shape as a standard underwire.

Some busty women have very round, full breasts which are close together. Because this body type usually needs to wear bras with full coverage cups, the underwire will not have enough room between the cups to lie flat.

Petite women with large breasts will also have difficulty finding an underwire bra that will lie flat between the breasts.top

 Risque Lingerie Shoulder Pain
Your bra should never dig into your shoulders or cause upper back pain. Bras that dig into your shoulders can even cause permanent nerve damage or indentations in your shoulders. Luckily, a correct bra fitting and some handy bra accessories can relieve shoulder pain for good.

Don’t worry, even women with large breasts can wear a bra without shoulder pain. The secret is to make sure your size is just right and your bra style suits your shape.

First things first, your bras straps should NOT be holding up your breasts. The weight of your breasts should be lifted from the band of the bra, not hanging from your shoulders. If your shoulder straps are digging in, your bra band may not be doing its job. Try going down to a smaller band size for more support.

If a bra that used to be comfortable has started to cause shoulder pain, it is probably “dead”. Over time, the bra band stretches out and loses its support. Don’t hang on to bras after they’ve stopped working – do yourself a favour and upgrade to a more comfortable style!top

  Falling Straps
If your bra straps keep slipping off, you’re not alone! Believe it or not, this is one of the most common bra complaints. Falling bra straps could be a sign of an improper fit or just the wrong style for you. There are also fantastic bra accessories that can prevent this problem.

Constantly having your bra straps fall off your shoulders is an annoying and common bra problem. While it may sound obvious, many women simply do not adjust their bra straps or do not adjust them correctly. Don’t worry about making both of your bra straps the same length.

Because everyone has one breast that is larger than the other, you might have to make one strap longer in order to make the straps comfortably snug.

If you cannot adjust your bra straps to the right length, there are two possible reasons. One problem could be that your bra is too old. Over time, the elastic that is in most bra straps stretches out. To extend the life of your bra, make sure you never put the bra in the dryer, which destroys elastic. top

 Risque Lingerie Reducing Breast Size
Large breasts can be a mixed blessing. Sometimes you just want to downplay your chest or look better in fitted tops. The right bra style can make your chest look smaller and still feel perfectly comfortable.

You know how they say the grass is always greener on the other side? Nobody understands this more than women with naturally large breasts! Sometimes, you don’t want your chest to be the center of attention. Don’t worry – there are ways to make your chest appear smaller without resorting to surgery.

First, let me tell you what you should NOT do. Wearing a bra that is too small for your breasts won’t make you look smaller. In fact, this is very unflattering and can even make you appear heavier. Make sure that you are wearing the correct band and cup size.top

  Enhancing Your Breast Size
If you want to add a little extra “oomph” to your chest, this is the place to be! Risque has all sorts of tricks that will make your breasts look larger without looking or feeling unnatural. Sometimes, you just want a little extra boost to maximize what you’ve got. We all remember the teenage trick of “stuffing your bra”!

If you would like to make your breasts look larger, there are now much more sophisticated lingerie solutions. The easiest and most convenient way to look bigger in the bust is a padded bra. There are a few different types of padded bras, which all have slightly different functions.

A bra with molded or contour padding has foam pads that are built into the cup itself. These pads are often graduated for subtle, natural enhancement. Contour padding is a common feature of molded T-shirt bras. Bras with push-up pads or “bump pads” are designed to lift the breast from the bottom and are usually removable.

Push up bras create more defined cleavage in addition to adding to your size and is a good choice if you don’t want to wear a padded bra all the time. top

Risque Lingerie Back Bands That Ride Up
Bra band creeping up your back during the day? While this problem may seem like a minor annoyance, this is actually a clear signal that your bra does not fit and support you correctly. Fortunately, some small size adjustments can help you get a perfect bra with a band that stays put.

There are reasons why your bra band will ride up your back. By fixing these problems, you will have a much more comfortable and supportive bra. The first reason is the simplest. You may be adjusting your bra straps too tightly, forcing the band to ride up. Some women try to lift their breasts higher by adjusting the bra straps, but this will not work. Your support should be coming from the bra band, not the straps.

Carefully adjust your bra straps and see if this fixes the problem. The second, and most common, reason for a bra band riding up is that the bra band is too big. This is the number one bra problem that I see in my store. In the correct fit, your bra band will be snug and create a straight line across your back. If your bra band is too loose, the back of the bra will rise and the front will droop and sag – not a good look!

Going down a band size will probably fix your bra problem. However, bear in mind that the amount of space in the cup is related to your band size. For example, the cup on a 38D bra has more room in it than a 36D cup. This means that you have to adjust the cup size everytime you change your band size.

For example, a woman who wears a 38D and needs a tighter bra band should try size 36DD in the same bra. If this is still too loose, she may even be a 34DDD. Don’t worry about the letter on the tag. The most important thing is to find a bra that fits you well and makes you look fabulous.top

  Bra Bands That Dig In
A bra band that digs into your back is anything but comfortable. Not only can this be painful, it can create unflattering back bulges. By wearing the proper size bra, you can look and feel much better in your bra. Your bra should never dig into your back and hurt you.

If you want to rip off your annoying bra at the end of the day, than you definitely need a new bra! If your bra band digs into your skin and makes you uncomfortable, your band size is probably too small. One bra fitting tip to remember is that the cup size is related to the band size.

This means that if you try a larger band size, you will have to go down a size in the cup as well. For example, if you are wearing size 34C and the band is too small, you should try size 36B. If you are already an A cup, but need to go up to a bigger band size, try a AA bra. While the best solution to a digging bra band is the correct size bra, you may also want to try a bra back extender.

This accessory makes the band of any bra larger. Bra band extenders are a great solution if your real size is difficult to find or if you have gained weight and do not fit into your bras. Think Fit, Not Flab

One common complaint we bra fitters hear about is extra back fat around the bra band. This is just a natural result of a woman’s body and not a sign that your bra does not fit. While wearing a looser band may reduce the appearance back fat, it will also sacrifice all of your bra’s support. A smooth look in the back is not worth sagging in the front! Instead of buying a larger band size, I recommend trying bras that have a wider band in the back.

This will create a smoother back. It will take a little trial and error to find a brand that suits your unique shape, even once you are wearing the correct size bra. top

 Risque Lingerie Maternity and Pregnancy
If you thought you knew your bra size, pregnancy will make you think again! Your breasts will change sizes many times both during and after pregnancy. Good breast health is essential for pregnant and nursing women. One of the first signs of pregnancy is fuller breasts and let’s just say it doesn’t stop there!

While every woman’s body is different, most women go up one to three cup sizes over the course of their pregnancy. Because of your expanding belly, you also need to wear a larger band size while pregnant. A few days after birth, your milk will “come in”.

This is called engorgement. Engorgement is the point when your breasts are the largest. When you are first nursing, your breast size can change from day to day. Once your baby is nursing on a regular schedule, you will be back to having a constant bra size. Most women return to their pre-pregnancy band size and are up to three cup sizes larger than they were before having a baby. Because of all these changes, it is important to remeasure yourself often and wear quality maternity bras and nursing bras.

A maternity bra is a bra that is appropriate for pregnant women. Most maternity bras are specifically designed to be worn while pregnant. Some “regular” bras can also work as maternity bras if they have the correct features. Here are some features to look for in a maternity bra:

  • Maternity bras should fit on the tightest hook when you first buy them so you will have room as your chest expands
  • Women who are carrying high should wear a non-underwire bra
  • Bras without an underwire are also great during the third trimester
  • Maternity bras should always be supportive and comfortable to prevent back pain

If you’re wary of spending a lot of money on maternity bras, one tip is to wear nursing bras after the seventh month. Nursing bras have many of the comfort features that you need in a maternity bra and will be useful after birth.

A good maternity bra will make you far more comfortable as your breasts grow. Wearing a maternity bra helps support the breasts to prevent back pain and even reduces stretch marks. Because your breasts are the heaviest when you are pregnant and nursing, it is especially important to wear a bra that fits. Many maternity bras are also designed to be free of allergens and toxins for sensitive skin.

I recommend buying your first nursing bras at 30 to 32 weeks. After engorgement is over, most women are around the same bra size that they were at 30 weeks so this is a great time to measure for nursing bras. Your first nursing bras should be soft cup nursing bras. These non-underwire bras allow room for your breasts to grow during engorgement and have flexible sizing that will help you stay comfortable during the first few weeks of nursing.

You should have at least two soft cup nursing bras to alternate wearing during this time. After your cup size goes down, these bras will make great sleep nursing bras.

Once your baby is nursing on a regular schedule, you can really expand your nursing wardrobe! Modern nursing bras are available in a wide variety of colors and styles, so you’re not just stuck with unflattering white bras. Most women can comfortably wear an underwire nursing bra at this time.

Underwire nursing bras provide great support for heavy breasts, but it is very important that you are wearing the right bra size. In the correct cup size, the underwire will lie comfortably under the breast and not interfere with milk production. top

  High Ribcage
Have you measured yourself perfectly, tried dozens of bras and still have pain underneath your underwires? It’s possible that your bra problems are caused by a high ribcage.

For some women, underwire bras are uncomfortable even when they are properly fitted and wearing a good bra. If your underwire digs into you and nothing will fix the problem, it is possible that you have a high ribcage. Some people simply have a more pronounced ribcage than others.

If you think you may have a high ribcage, try pressing your finger directly under the breasts, where your wire would normally lie. If you can feel a hard bump in this spot, than you have a rib right underneath the space for your underwire. The simple solution to this bra problem is to try a great soft cup bra, or a bra without underwires. top

  Uneven Breasts
Many women have one breast that is noticibly larger than the other. If you feel self-conscious about having uneven breasts, there are plenty of solutions to help. Some women would like to find bras that can be adjusted to fit both breasts, while others prefer to camoflauge the difference.

Don’t be embarrassed if you don’t have perfectly even breasts. Believe it or not, every woman has one breast that is larger than the other. Some women have a noticeable size difference of a full cup size or even more, so I often have women in my store who need bra fitting help for uneven breasts.

There are many different solutions to comfortably fit both sides of your chest or to disguise the difference. You can use the shoulder straps to customize the fit on each side. This solution is great for women whose breasts are less than one cup size different on each side. It is also the most convenient solution for uneven breasts. If you would like to make your bust look more even, don’t try to squeeze the larger breast into a cup that is too small.

There are plenty of ways to fill in the smaller size to create a more symmetrical silhouette. The easiest solution is to wear a molded cup bra that is fitted to the larger size. Because this type of bra keeps its shape, this will hide a small difference in cup size. If your size difference is more pronounced, you can use a single breast enhancer in the cup to lift the smaller breast.

A great all-in-one solution for women with a smaller cup size is to buy a padded bra with removable “cookies” or push-up pads. Simply remove the padding from the larger side. Many modern padded bras come with this option.top

  Sagging Breasts
Are your breasts a little lower than they used to be? Sagging breasts can not only make you look older, they can make you waistline look wider too. But don’t worry! Women of all ages can have youthful, lifted breasts in the right bra. This section explains how bras lose support and how to get that perky look.

In a properly fitted bra, your breasts should look lifted, upright and perky no matter your age. If a bra doesn’t give you this look, it’s time for a new bra! While sagging breasts are a natural part of the aging process, the right bra can lift your breasts for a much more flattering look. How can you tell if your bra is giving you the support you need? Check out your profile in the mirror. In the right fit, your nipple will be halfway between your shoulder and your elbow.

If your girls are heading south, your bra is not fully supporting your breasts. First, check to make sure you are wearing the correct band size. Almost all of a bra’s support should come from the bra band. If your band is too loose, the weight of your breasts will pull down the front of your bra. If you can fit more than two fingers under your bra band, the band size is too big. Try going down one band size and up one cup size.

For example, if you are sagging in a size 36C bra, try 34D instead. Are you still sagging in a properly-fitted bra? Chances are, your bra is “dead”. Your bra’s not a Mercedes, ladies, it won’t last forever!

Besides wearing the wrong size in the first place, the most common bra mistake that women make is wearing their bras too long. Bras are under a lot of pressure and will stretch and weaken in time. You have to replace your bras regularly if you want to keep your breasts supported. One hint to get the most out of your bras is to buy bras that fit on the loosest hook. As your bra stretches, you can go down to the tighter hooks to prolong the life of the garment.

Also remember, you should never put a bra in the dryer! Heat damages the elastic band and causes the bra to lose its support. top
